| THE CHAPLET OF SAINT PHILOMENA
The Chaplet of Saint Philomena consists of thirteen red beads and three
white ones with a medal of the Saint.
The thirteen red beads symbolise the thirteen years of Saint Philomena's
earthly life and bring to mind her blood shed in martyrdom.
The white beads symbolise the purity for which she also died. They also
remind us that she died for the Catholic Faith, belief in One God, Father,
Son and Holy Spirit.
It is suggested that the Chaplet is prayed in particular for the graces
of purity, fortitude and faith. It is prayed as follows:
On the medal one prays the Apostles' Creed for the grace of Faith.
On each of the white beads one prays the OurFather in honour of the three
Divine Persons of the Holy Trinity and in thanksgiving for all the favours
obtained through the intercession of Saint Philomena.
On each of the thirteen red beads the following prayer is said:
"Hail, O holy Saint Philomena, whom I acknowledge, after Mary,
as my advocate with the Divine Spouse, intercede for me now and at the
hour of my death.
Saint Philomena, beloved daughter of Jesus and Mary, pray for us who have
recourse to thee. Amen"
Finally, on the medal, one says:
"Hail, O illustrious Saint Philomena, who so courageously shed your
blood for Christ. I bless the Lord for all the graces He has bestowed
upon you during your life, and especially at the hour of your death. I
praise and glorify Him for the honour and power with which He has crowned
you, and beg you to obtain for me from God the graces I ask through your
intercession. Amen."
